Overview
We Ski & Snowboard is an intuitive, reliable ski tracker with best-in-class trail maps, live friend locations, public and private leaderboards, detailed stats, lift wait times and more. It provides a generous free version, along with the option to subscribe for a premium experience. The app has complete feature parity between iOS and Android implementations.
Impetus
While standing in a lift line in 2019, I noticed how many people were pulling out their phones to check their ski stats for the day. It occurred to me that with the amount of people actively recording their ski day, it would be possible to crowdsource lift wait times, analogous to how Google crowdsources traffic data. I decided to build We Ski & Snowboard, and launched it at the start of the 2020 season.
Features
- Navigate the mountain like a local with interactive, winter-themed, 3D trail maps, custom-styled for optimal outdoor viewing. Over 2,000 resorts have been mapped worldwide.
- See where your friends are in realtime, and where they are headed. No more phone calls and texts from the lift. Only your friends can see your location, and vice versa. And of course you always have the option to go incognito, because no friends on powder days.
- Avoid lines by checking nearby lift wait times, crowdsourced automatically by We Ski.
- After your day on the mountain, relive the stoke by replaying your runs in immersive 3D. Check your speed and slope angle at any point along the run, and see where you hit your top speed and steepest pitch.
- Check your ranking on leaderboards against just your friends, or against the global We Ski community. We Ski provides leaderboards by season for vertical, distance, and number of days. The global leaderboard helped a handful of vert chasers score a free pair of Peak skis during their 4M Vertical Feet Challenge.
- We Ski is designed to be very gentle on your phone's battery, managing a full day of recording with minimal battery drain.
- Import and export GPX files from other trackers.
